Hi There,
APPLY BEFORE JANUARY 1ST 2026 FOR ELECTRIC & HYBRID TECHNICIAN TRAINING FUNDS STARTS HERE!
The following provides details surrounding the custom training plan.
Introduction to Hybrid and Electric Vehicles-AUTO-8147: Prerequisite: None Provides practical training in the theory and basic design aspects of battery powered vehicle propulsion systems. Primary subjects will include an overview of high voltage batteries, regenerative braking, safety procedures, EV & hybrid maintenance and diagnostics, EV safety, battery technologies, basic battery testing, electric machine motor types, electric machine operation, power management, power inverters, AC to DC converters, accessory systems, and potential future technologies.
Electric Vehicle High Voltage Safety-AUTO-8148: Prerequisite: AUTO-8147 Hybrid and Electric Vehicles contain high voltage DC and AC systems that require safe handling procedures to avoid possible electrical shocks. This course is designed to teach the service technicians how to safely work on electric vehicles.
Working Safely with Hybrid & Electric Vehicles-AUTO-8148A (Lab): Prerequisite: AUTO-8147 and AUTO-8148 This lab offers practical, hands-on training in electric vehicle battery systems-based content covered in AUTO-8147 and AUTO-8148. Students gain real-world experience working with live electric vehicle batteries, covering high-voltage systems, regenerative braking, power electronics, and more.
Safety procedures covered in AUTO-8147 and AUTO-8148 are rigorously taught and followed to ensure student and faculty safety. Combined, AUTO-8147, AUTO-8148, and this Lab AUTO-8148a will prepare students to take the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) 1 certification through the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
Electric Motor Controls and Drives-AUTO-8153: Prerequisite: AUTO-8147, AUTO-8148, AUTO-8148A An introduction to AC motors and AC motor controls. Topics include Fundamental concepts of electricity and magnetism, AC motors, traction motors, AC synchronous permanent magnet motors, adjustable frequency drives, also an introduction to MATLAB and Simulink Modeling of various electric vehicle components.
EV Batteries & Energy Storage Systems-AUTO-8154: Prerequisite: AUTO-8147, AUTO-8148, AUTO-8148A, and AUTO-8153 Topics include rechargeable batteries for mobile applications at the battery cell, module and pack level, hybrid systems and batteries, safety procedures, hybrid maintenance and car battery connection to the smart grid.
Electric Motor Controls and Drives-AUTO-8154A (Lab): Prerequisite: AUTO-8147, AUTO-8148, AUTO-8148A, AUTO-8153, and AUTO-8154 Prepare for intensive, hands-on engagement with electric vehicle battery systems in the Electric Vehicle Battery Lab (AUTO-8155). This lab course provides practical training derived from the theories outlined in Electric Motor Controls and Drives (AUTO-8153) and EV Batteries & Energy Storage Systems (AUTO-8154).
Operate within an actual live environment featuring functional high voltage electric vehicle batteries, where students will rigorously apply classroom concepts to ensure operational competence and safety. Enrollment requires completion of a mandatory waiver, reflecting the authentic exposure to live battery systems. Prospective participants are expected to possess a foundation in Electrical Fundamentals, Blueprint Reading, Motor Controls and Drives, Electrical Sensors, and OSHA 10, in addition to satisfying the prerequisites.
The Electric Vehicle Battery Lab (AUTO-8155) delivers a direct and pragmatic pathway for individuals seeking practical expertise in electric vehicle technology and energy storage systems. Combined, AUTO-8147, AUTO-8148, AUTO-8148a, AUTO-8153, and AUTO-8154, and this Lab AUTO-8154a will prepare students to take the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) 2 certification through the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
